A great day in history, a great leader and a great inception to a great nation, everything seemed to make those words great. And indeed they were great, for they painted a true picture of India and Nehru's great vision speculationg the future of India, so vividly as to take ahead 40 crore souls along a unified path of glory.
Nehru talked about the quest that India started on, the success achieved and the faliures faced by her, about the endless ills and misfortunes she has under gone till now. It was never a cakewalk but India has always stood the test of time. But this new begining has brought with it new opportunities even to greater triumphs and achievements. He also recogonized that freedom and power are harbingers of responsibilty and enormous challenges. And we need to tap the numerous opportunities presented by a future which beckons us with its arms open. He also said it is not the time for rest but the need of the hour is an incessant and dedicated effort to service of India and to the service of humanity as a whole. He made an appeal to the people of India to join hands and leave behind the ill-wills and criticisms to build a noble country for all its residents.
How could our freedom speech have been complete without the mention of the great architect of our freedom, Father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. His thoughts guided numerous astray souls and his words still bear imprints in minds of many. He is still the torch bearer for us and will always be, come what may. Nehru also touched upon the greatness of uncountable volunteers for their selfless acts to serve their country to death, and also of our brothers and sisters who are seperated from us by physical boundaries but are always there to share ills and goods with us. He impressed upon us that its not the time to engage in petty communalism and narrow mindedness, rather its a time to do away the differences, embrace everyone irrespective of their caste, colour or faith and work hard towards building a progressive and democratic nation, a destiny bestowed upon us.
He paid homage to our motherland and pledged to coperate with other nations to bring about a universal peace, freedom and democracy. He ended the speech with two words JAI HIND which represents a salute to our great nation.
It truly was a magnanimous speech. And looking back India has faced many challenges as Nehru envisioned and have always dealt with them with a firm hand. Be it floods, famines, wars or terrorism we have overcome many unprecedented adversities and have progressed to, where we stand today i.e world's biggest democracy and one of the fastest growing economy. We have stumbled, only to come back stronger again. But India's real tryst with destiny according to me was in 1991 when India announced its entry on the world's stage. It was loud and clear and there was no turning back. The event was full of sceptism both internal and from the external world. But to the surprise of many, India has shown phenomenal growth economically and we have made more success stories than any other country within two decades of our arrival. India is marching ahead along it's path like an arrow out of an archer's bow, never to look back, eyeing a place where it is destined, and that is to be the greatest nation on earth taking other nations along with it.
