Happy birthday - Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

It's 2nd of october and I thought I should drop by and pay my homage to the greatest son this land has ever produced, the Father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. As much has already been said and written about this divine soul it should rather be just a few lines.

What i am most impressed by him was the determination in his actions and conviction with which he guided the Indian masses on the path of truth and non-violence. A common man inspired by the great thinker Leo Tolstoy himself became a source of inspiration to whole of nation. Not only he was pioneer in the struggle for our freedom but the virtues he taught has shaped the fabric of Indian culture and act as our guardians till date.

Though we have paid homage to this great soul in lot many ways. Printing his face on the currency, naming routes and localities on his name (Everywhere i go i happen to find MG Road there), Observing a national holiday and dry day (though not fully ;) throughout the country on his birthday. But the best way to thank this heavenly soul is to remember him and follow his virtues. So here i am, playing my part, thanking whole heartedly to the architect of our nation, the torch bearer of our society, the epitome of philanthropy for all his altruistic deeds towards his countrymen. May his soul rest in peace.

P.S. Though he is famous for many quotes but lemme share a couple of my favorites

  • Be the change you want to see in the world
  • The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong

  1. Mahatma Gandhi indeed was one of the biggest contributors in India's struggle for independence. He alone revolutionized patriotism throughout the country and brought home the freedom. But I hate him for partitioning India. The attachment he brought along with independence is so huge that we are still, even after more than 60 years, not able to manage its burden completely. I wonder what the Indian picture would have been had the partition never happened!

  2. Don't know from where u gt the idea of Mahatma being responsible for partition. But surely he was not. The only thing he advocated was that if partition need be done then our brothers who goes to other side get their share of pie and it all happens peacefully. Consider this, one man army in the form of Mahatma on the eastern front (Bengal border) was able to prevent the massacre that whole Indian Army on the westren side (punjab border) was not able to prevent. Such was the charisma of this divine soul.
